New Bedford Mercury Typeface

The Mercury Typeface started as a research project for Typography 4. The inspiration for my typeface was an old newspaper that is long out of print, The New Bedford Mercury. I noticed how the letterforms were distorted by the old printing process on cheap paper. I took these distorted forms, traced them by hand and built a typeface out of the odd shapes.
